We have this old road bed on our lease that most of the time stays real wet. It's so bad we made a road around it last year to stay out of the mud....it is between to stands of pines and mostly has grass growing in it now..My question is what would grow best in these conditions? I limed it last week and hope to plant something this weekend if we get some rain.... I'll have a Bobcat there this weekend to turn it over also...

thanks ahead

I will make this area a no hunt zone on the lease just to hold Deer...

Thanks....Would you do a mix if so what percentage? and use a 10-10-10 fetilizer? The soil test only called for lime....The area is about 40x100

thank again

4000 sf is less than 10 % of an acre, any mix will be fine,a little fert wont hurt

I would spend money on lime before I spent money on fertilizer.

The area is so small it may not benfit you to purchase two bags of seed for mixing.

May want to put down some more lime. 2 tons an acre would still have you puting 400 total pounds out. It would only cost you 30 bucks and would do a world of good in the long run. Make sure you put down 60 pounds per acre of Nitrogen if you are going to plant wheat or grain rye. In your case that would be roughly 20 pounds of Ammonium Nitrate.

why dont you plant a perennial plot something that will come back for the next 3-5 years. a 2 1/2 lb of mossy oak clover plus will cover a 1/4 acre it has red clover, white clover and chicory. if you plant that use 0-20-20 fert. clover makes its own nitrogen and if you give it too much it promotes weed growth. mow the plot several times thru the year and the clover will actually spread by creating sister plants. good luck
