Need Youth Rifle Recommendations

I am looking to purchase my 6 and 7 year old boys a rifle to start hunting with. We have been shooting .22s for a couple of years now and after a squirrel hunt this evening, they asked for a deer rifle. I have been secretly looking at a H&R single shot .243 and just found a Rossi that comes with interchangeable barrels. It comes with a .243 barrel, a 20 guage barrel and a .22 barrel. I don't know much about either of these guns but the H&R is about $225 and the Rossi is about $260. Anybody have any experience with either of these guns? Anybody recommend another youth rifle that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Thanks for any help. I need to get something quickly if we are going to make the youth hunt at the end of the month.
 
I would personally go with the H&R 243. I have the same rifle and have taken lots of deer with it. I also have a Rossi in .22 and hate it. The quality in the H&R is better in my opinion. Better trigger and you can also get additional barrels in the future if you want. You just send the receiver in and request whatever caliber you want and they match the new barrel to your receiver.

Stay away from the Superlite model. They are very finicky and hard to get to group worth a darn. Stay with the Handi Rifle Youth model.
 
Of the two choices mentioned I would definitely go with the H&R. I have read a bunch of posts on several forums about inaccuracy in the Rossi 243. Plateau Hunter

Remington both Model 7 and 700,Savage makes a few different model as well and the Browning Micro series A-bolts are Youth or small framed shooter sized, Win did a Compact 70 at one time.Will be liminited to calibers in some of those. Don't know if they would be small enough for you or not.

Bass-pro offers the new Marlin XS7 in a youth model, a nice bolt action that is supposed to really shoot. $289 + tax brand new. Calibers: 308, 7mm08, 243 if I remember correctly.
 
Just wanted to say thank you to every one. Ended up with the H&R. I need to sneak out and sight it in. Will have to see if the boys can handle it or not. It is the same length of pull as their .22s but a little heavier. Picked up a shooting staff/stick to help them a little.
