Need your opinion!!!

Ok, this is kind of a spur of the moment trip. I decided to go up to Indiana this weekend and place a camera until I get back up to bow hunt which starts 10/1 but it will probably be late October early November before im back. I know its hard to place a camera somewhere you've never been, but what would your goal be to place a camera you wont be able to touch one, possibly two months. The farm im hunting on has a big creek, 20 acre alfalfa field, soy beans, corn, and lots of hardwoods. I'll post an aerial.

Second question. I will have two other cameras that I will be putting out tomorrow and getting Monday as I leave. I bought a bag of Big&J BB2 to put in front of one in the edge of the soy bean field where I find the most sign. What would you do to try your best to get a picture of a mature buck in 3 days?! I know its a long shot, but hey why not try!?

That is going to be hard. Watch the bean field the first night and focus your cams around where the deer are. They usually do the same thing in the summer.

I'm in Central Indiana. Right now, they are simply moving around between the corn and beans. There doesn't seem to be a strong pattern yet here. I'm seeing deer regularly, but they seem to be utilizing different trails. Try to point the camera facing north down the boundary of the woods and crops. Should minimize the glare from the sun. The big thing is they seem to bed down IN the corn and beans, but are venturing into the woods some. Seems kind of weird this year. Its been a mild summer, so that could have something to do with it. Good luck! If you can be in the woods when the farmers are cutting and harvesting, it's game on...

I would find the best trail coming from the woods to the crops and put it there, or find a good creek crossing if the deer are using the woods much.

as for getting a pic of a mature buck in 3 days, can't help you there... I would guess that putting it on a regular travel path of a mature buck would work but finding that path would probably just be luck.

Grew up in Indiana, and hunted there many a year - problem with using the woods for anything this time of year is a lot of the deer will not really use them for anything. While the corn is standing they will just as soon bed there.

Once the corn is harvested we always had really good luck just inside the woods on those "inside corners" - the bucks will usually pass just inside there, and seems like most times running deer will head into the woods there for some reason.

All good stuff guys! Thanks for the help, has anybody used that big&j bb2? Ive heard good stuff. What is favorite deer attractant? Like said its not going to be easy but im going to try anyway. Looks like the cam im leaving is definitely going to be on a crop field. Anyone know where I could get a security box for a covert, academy or some other store? I use a python cable but would like to really beef it up.

The bottom center of the pic is where I would put one. Where the woods are narrowest between the 2 ag fields.

Pulled cards monday evening and I lucked up and got this guy on cam within 48 hours!!!..... Pretty excited to go back and check my cam I left in a month or so.

His body isn't big so much because of what he is eating, but because of his age. That's an older buck; probably mature (4 1/2).

Right I understand that, but there seems to be a significant difference in size even with the fawns and does. I thought it was a genetic thing. Thanks for the age, thats what I was thinking but wanted some more input because im no pro.
