Ok I'm still new to reloading 2years under my belt. I am working up a load for my 3006 180gr accubonds. The nosler book recommended the best powder to use is rl22. I dont have any of that powder but it says I can use h4350 so thats what I'm loading. I have worked and shot up to max load with best grouping at max 1.5 inch group. My question is if im not showing any signs of pressure on my brass should I go over max load and see if I can get the group to tighten ? I no if I go over I need to start in small increments. I have never had to get this close to max or even go over max to get my grouping that I want.

Yes, if you are careful to look for pressure signs and then start to back off. Keep in mind that pressure can increase due to outside temperatures and other factors like seating depth. Therefore it's best not to load too near the maximums. If I found a good charge node ( with low sd and es) I would play with seating depths to tighten groups.

What is your jump?
What you want to do is get verrry close to the lands say .007. Minimize the distance for the bullet to engage the lands. Some folks will jam the bullet into the lands and in the not-to-distant past that was considered the thing to do to get Barnes bullets to fly straight. For you and me, we just get close and become particular about maintaining that very tiny distance.

The SAAMI spec is what most factory ammo abides by because one 30/06 round must fit a very large number of rifles. For your own rifle, make the ammo fit your gun exactly. Yes, it can be tedious but you ever read DA's load recipes?? almost always ends with "lock it down".

I have not touched my 30/06 jump since the late 1980's. Same for my 22-250, 243, and 300 WinMag.

What powder increments did you increase by as you went up the scale, and did you start at the recommended starting load and go up from there? I have a sub MOA load for my Remington Model 710 30-06 using 150 gr NAB's, AA 4350 powder, and the jump is .150"! The throat is too long to even consider trying to get close to the lands in that rifle.

I worked up by .3 at a time. My oal bullets length is 3.330 that's what I have started with and I have not adjust bullet depth.

Re: Need some advice

Reloadxx, if you get up this way (east of Knoxville), I could probably spot you a pound of rl22. Be forewarned though, rl22 is temp sensitive.

Re: Need some advice

Try some 150 NABs. I've had really good success with them from 06 to my 300WSM. I'm using AA4350 in both btw.

Re: Need some advice

Got the accubond 180's to shoot at 1in group pulled bullet off of lands by .010 and at 55gr of 4350 it shot the best well atleast with my bad eyes it shot 1in group. Someone with better eyes can probably get it to shoot tighter grouo than I can.
