Need Some Advice

I recently came into posession of a Savage Mod. 311 SxS with some kind of varnish or clear sealer on the barrel. I plan to take it off and would like some advice/ideas on how to refinish the barrel and other metal parts of the shotgun. I've read where someone used a flat black BBQ paint for this purpose. Not sure how good an idea this is. Ideally I'd like to finish this gun with a do it yourself powder coating. Any ideas, suggestions?

Just strip down everything and reblue it. Or, Brownell's has several really durable spray and bake finishes. Get on there and check 'em out. Or you could black duracoat it and it would last forever.

Ive used Brownells products with great results. Someone here on Tndeer recommended it and im glad they did.

I've never used their bluing, but I've used Brownells' Barrell Browning stuff on the muzzleloaders I've built and it worked very well and was easy.
