Update…… see the video below for the update on my food plot since I broadcast Cereal Rye and lime 10 days ago. It's coming right along. I had to dig a bunch of Smartt weed out of it this morning. Overall, it's looking good.The food plot in the attached pictures is new and was planted in March with chicory and white clover. I have maintained it through the spring and summer hoping to build the soil over the next couple growing seasons. I mowed it on July 30 and broadcast Lime, Crimson Clover and Daikon radishes. The pictures were taken yesterday, Sunday. As you can see, my chicory has taken over with the clover in a distant second. I have yet to see any new sprouts from the Crimson clover and Daikon radishes. My plans are to broadcast Cereal Rye in a couple of weeks with more lime. I'll do that again two more weeks after that.
My question is, with the chicory and clover being so thick, will it allow the cereal rye to grow the way it should and be a food source during the winter? What should I do in this situation?
1. Let it be and continue as planned
2. Mow it again before I broadcast the rye
3. Other options??? Your opinion.
