Anyone owned a 450C John Deere dozer? I have found several that look to be in decent shape for around 10K but I don't know a lot about dozers. Have quite a bit of work that needs to be done and am tossed between buying a dozer and doing the work myself and having the dozer for work around the farm or hiring it out.

Just depends on how much your going to use it. I get 75$ a hour to run ours if that helps.

We get $90/hr for our D5G.
As far a the Deere goes, the C series has some age on it. Better check the undercarriage, Sprocket, Rollers, Rails for wear. Might be in good shape, but it might not for its age.

Agreed,better know what your getting into,plus,I have years of heavy equip experience.It aint like riding a bike,you may be a natural,or you may be very frustrated,or worse,get your self hurt.jmb4wd said:

I bought a case 850 a couple months ago probably done in the neighborhood of $5000 work on it at my place also made a couple grand on the side with it clearing food plots and tornado damage. No regrets here. $85 an hour.
My warning would be look it over very, very, very close. Equipment repairs even the smallest ones, especially dozers, will put a dent your pocket book in a hurry.

a 450 may be a little small if you are clearing alot of woods. i have a komatsu 39p and that is a great machine. about the same size as a cat d5 or deer 550.
check out ironplantet.com that is the best place to get used equipment. they have an auction every couple weeks with many dozers in each auction. once you register on the site you can see what previous auctions have sold for. you can get really nice machines for seriously discounted prices in this economy.
