My buddy and I both got does this morning but we both saw seperate events that were kind of neat. He had a young doe come running to him before turning and running back across a small field only to repeat everything again. He said she ran 4 complete circles like this and then stopped at a waterhole for a drink. After drinkning he said she just laid down in the water. In the frantic running she alerted 2 bucks that just had to slip to the edge of the woodsline to get a look at the crazy heifer. Neither were shooters.
I shot my doe right on top of a burm and she flipped backwards and out of sight. I felt like she ought to be laying just over the burm and once I got down and looked I was right. Instead of looping around on the way out like I came in I made a straight shot over towards my wheeler. On the way I stopped to check out an area that looked promising. As I was walking 2 bucks jumped up from their bedding and stepped out into the cut grass strip I was on not 30 feet away. I immediately threw the rifle to my shoulder watching. As I did 2 more bucks stepped out. They looked at me and then would look away and then back at me. As they walked on off another buck popped out 20 feet away. He was a non-shooter 10 pointer and as I stood there 2 more bucks popped up...and then another...and then another. 9 bucks all bedding in a 30 foot circle and stepping out wide open within 30 feet. After the last one walked away the 10th buck ran by me. The only thing I can figure is that they had a hot doe bedded in there with them and I just missed seeing her. None were shooters but 4 of them were missing half their racks. Earlier from the stand I saw what would have been a shooter but he was also missing half his rack. Something in the area has been doing a job on them. I looked around and found a tall pine allowing me to get up about 40 feet and look down into the area. My stand's waiting there on me now.
