No they are not as fast growing or attain large sizes

They stock some brook trout in the clinch river below Norris dam. It's not unusual to catch several in a trip up to 14".

I'm far from an expert in this area, but this is what I understand.
Twra hasn't had a hatchery that raises the southern strain until last year. Before, when they reintroduced them, they would have to shock them from one stream and transport them to another.
Last spring, I was helping with getting an old hatchery building at the Tellico Hatchery get going that was going to raise nothing but the native southern strain. I'm pretty sure they were going to get their stock from Sycamore Creek. A guy I fish with said he finished doing the electrical work last fall. I'm not sure if they have any breeding fish yet, or not, but it should be going this year.

What a beautiful fish! It brings back memories of Hazel Cr. and Standing Indian in NC. They are certaintly some of God's jewels.

Doskil, I'm pretty sure they are catching some if the northern strain out of the clinch that are close to 14". I hope you don't take this the wrong way, because I'm about as far from a fishing snob as you can get, but I hope they never chuck the little natives into a tailwater. Some fish were just made for catching in wild places.
In all honesty, I can't tell the difference in the northern strain from the southern strain, and I've caught plenty of both. I know biologists have to genetically test them to tell the difference.

My wildlife and fisheries class will be stocking the native strain of brookies this spring in Cherokee National Forest. They have only been spawned 3 times and we will be stocking this third group.
So, to answer your question, the US forest service is beginning to stock them.

I didn't know that it was a one time stocking on the clinch. If I would have known I wouldn't have seasoned them, wrapped them in foil and grilled them. I was wondering why I haven't caught any lately.

I have caught them in the Clinch 16" long. They will get much bigger in the larger tailwater rivers.

I am not so sure of that. I think that went on for about 2-3 years. I even picked up some small ones last spring that surely were not stocked four years ago, because those as previously mentioned are now about 12-14".

7mm08, now that I think of it, they have definately stocked brooks more than once in the Clinch. One day this summer I put my boat in at River Road and the hole where you put in was absolutely filled with little brook trout. I have caught brook trout up there for several years.
