Nantahala NF?

Anybody ever deer hunt on the Nantahala? If so are there any weird regs I need to be aware of? I only consider hunting there cause of how the deer hunts are split up in Cherokee NF. My thought is I could hunt just over the border while the TN bear hunts are going on. I do also know that NC recognizes no hunting on Sunday

Not sure of deer regulations but I went turkey hunting there a few years ago and was blown away by how many more gobbling birds were there compared to south Cherokee. Maybe it was the area I hunted or maybe I just got up on the right side of the bed that morning but it was amazing. Also beautiful woods. Good luck!

I don't hunt it but I fish it a lot. If the hunting regs are like the trout fishing regs, it can get a little confusing. I've also discovered some of the main forest service roads closed in the winter. That being said, it sure seems like once you cross that state line, everything is better in N.C. The fishing is definitely better and there seems to be more game from my experiences hiking into the backcountry. The roads are WAY better than CNF. I have a LT license in TN so kinda a moot point but license costs are even close. It cost me $50 a year to fish in NC as a nonresident including trout. I love NC! Lol

I'm just the opposite, we hunt some during the January hog season and I haven't seen near the deer sign I see in TN. Not saying it ain't better but I've not seen enough sign to want to deer hunt it. Seems like they got more hogs than we do. Now fishing is definitely better over there!

Hunted it my whole life. It's where I started when I was a kid. They have changed the regs alot the last few years and hunting on Sunday is allowed just not between 930am to 1230am which is ridiculous in my opinion. Buck only right now the rut is in full swing in the part I hunt. This week and next are the best time to catch rutting bucks in the mountains where I'm at which would be considered the east end of the NF.
