I'm running low on my N120 and looking for a replacement. Before I buy, I have a couple of questions.

Is Reloader 10 the same as RL10X (referred to on Doug's message board)? There's a local shop that has it in stock.

I'm shooting 300g Barnes Original SS, BCR sabots, and Federal 209 primers with stock SS barrel.

I want accuracy (as much as possible) stretching it out. I've been successful many times over 200 yards with this load and once at 320 yards using N120.

What would be a better powder for me, RL7 or R10? Anybody shoot this powder with this bullet?

A lot of people like H4198 with a 300gr or 325gr. I had good luck with Reloder7. Its not quite as fast or as clean as N120.

I have some 4198 left from when I shot the Hornady SST. Had some bad experiences, but I think it had more to do with my barrel and .452 bulletsI. I'll give it a try when I try the RL7 or RL10.

Thanks!

i would go with Reloader 7, the only bad thing about it is it doesn't burn as clean as N120, but nothing does.

I have one pound of N120 left, it's a dam shame they stopped importing it.

Reloader 10 is the same as 10x, some people call it Reloader 10 some 10x. I have not used it in a .45 or .50, just my .40. You may want to Check Doug's.

IIRC around 65gr of Reloder7 gets you close to 2300fps with a 300gr bullet. About 65-67gr of 4198 puts you in the same ball park. You could probably break 2400fps with 4198 without excessive pressure if you really needed the fps.

The only reason i prefer Reloder7 for this combination is because its double based and ignites easier.

I shoot Reloder 7 after trying 10x and 5744. I couldn't get 10x to group well. I'm wanting to try h4198 but I've read problems with it going off.

Thanks! Sounding like Reloader 7 will be it. I'll decide for sure when I drive home from Houston on Wed I guess.

Thought I was going to have to drive an hour away after work (Houston isn't muzzleloader country for some reason, LOL) until I remembered I had Carter's Country store 5 miles from my station. I stopped in and got lucky. Front desk said no, but I had them check and they had JUST received a shipment of Reloader 7 in.

H4198 should be fine if you stick to a 300gr-325gr bullet in a snug sabot. 67gr should get you a little over 2300fps. Try a mag primer and make sure your breach plug channel is clean.

This load is a bit hot for my tastes but it gives you idea of the pressure created.
