Well I skipped the TN opening weekend and took my 8 year old son to Virginia for their juvenile weekend. Saturday we jumped 3 bedded deer on our way in and we hunted all day and all we saw was a tiny fawn and a groundhog. The wind was awful and he slept most of the day while I kept my eyes peeled hoping for a deer. Sunday was great. We saw 5 deer shortly after daylight and missed our opportunity on a great 7 pointer. He ended up settling the crosshairs on this young doe and dropped her in her tracks at 10:30. He made a great shot on her and I am very proud of him.

Love the scout rifle! Congrats to the young man. I hope to share a similar memory in a few years with my little girl.

Awesome! Congrats to you both. My brother lives in the gate city/clinchport area and took my nephew and he missed a 4pt. The weather was rough up here sat especially the wind.

Congrats to you both. Those memories are worth missing all season for. Keep him in the woods and you'll never have to worry about him in his later years. Thanks for sharing. Tell us more about the gun, rings and scope. I like that setup for a juvenile.

Congrats to you guys. Great job by that young man.

I was curious about the scope. It seems mounted so far forward that it would be hard to see through. What type is it?

Would like to know more on the rifle. Love that setup . Like to have something like that for my boys to ensure not getting eye to close to scope. Congrats on your sons first derr

Thanks. The rifle is a Ruger Frontier Compact Scout rifle chambered in 7mm08. It is a friends rifle that he gave us to try out and my son and I both love it. We used the Hornady American Whitetail 139gr ammo. The scope is a fixed power 4x33mm Leupold. The eye relief is great and he had no trouble seeing through it. Although I can't seem to convince my friend to sell me the rifle I am trying to find one exactly like it and will not hesitate to buy one when I do find it.
