With the banner crop of mast this year I thought the hunting would be pretty tough. Bucks are cruising right now so that has over-ridden the huge amount of food and hunting has been good. The acorns, at least in my area are quickly disappearing and the ones that are left are already going bad. I believe by the time the rut dwindles down the deer will be on the move again in search of browse. I think late season is gonna be good...?

No acorns here. The deer are in small pockets around food. Its like looking for a needle in a hyastack. I had seen 2 does since muzzleloader opened. I found a food source and i saw an umbelievable amount of deer in 1 1/2 hours wed afternoon.

I'm still finding plenty of good white oak acorns under the leaves, and as Bowriter pointed out, reds are always good through the winter.

Honestly, unless there was a near acorn failure, I've never seen deerbe able to "eat up" all the acorns. There are usually far more acorns that deer can eat. They just get visually covered by leaves (but deer can still smell and find them).

When stomach contents no longer contain acorns, THEN good acorns are no longer to be found.

Tons of acorns in east tn, i mean like carpet, but they are disappearing fast due to turkey, deer, and other animals. Hoping they will go soon so they start coming out more.
