I bought some land last year right as bow season opened. I really wasn't able to do any work. All I did was cut a few trees and mow an area one of the neighbors told me used to be a an area they kept mules.

This area doesn't get sun all day, probably 6 hours. It is oriented east-west.

I am thinking of putting some dwarf fruit trees down the middle and I need some ideas as to what to plant in the other area.

There are very few fields in this area and the tiny oat plot I planted last year got hammered.

Any suggestions?

The field as it was last September.

The micro oat plot, last October.

As of yesterday....

Looks nice

I would cut down the trees in the middle of the upper plot.

The pictures are deceiving, they are all taken in the same plot. I did cut 5 large poplars and a lot of smaller trees. I've got a ton of rocks to pick up and some roots. to cut out so I can till the rest. I've go some landino and chickory I'm going to try after the weeds get growing and I spray.

It is amazing the amount of time it took to do this by myself with no tractor.

Thanks for the complements, I hope my work pays off come fall.

SOIL SAMPLE then lime Groundhog radishes and oats after summer but the radishes will take over. Not had good luck with turnips the oats have done good for me and the radishes and both will help the soil getting it ready for spring

Photos from this weekend, I planted ladino, chickory and oats.

After deer season this year I am going to take quite a few more trees out and get sun to this spot.

looks like its coming in good. I just put down some ladino myself. I hope it makes...Its in an area with partial sun similar to this. I want some chickory but everyone local is sold out. Looks like Im gonna have to order it online.
