I went duck hunting for the second time yesterday up around bogota, tn. I absolutely had the best time I've had hunting. To me, duck hunting is the most expensive kind of hunting and I'm only 22 and don't have large income at the moment. I am looking for somewhere to hunt whether it be draw hunts, public or private land. My problem is that I dont have much equipment. Im learning how to call, but I don't own decoys or a boat. I have a 4 wheeler and that's about it. What is my best bet to duck hunt next season? Sign up for draw hunts? Do I need my own blind for those or are there pits in place? Are the any public places worth trying? Are there any lease openings you know of? Hell, I was hoping to meet somebody willing to trade some weekend work for a day or two of hunting. What do you suggest?

Go to the Blind Draws the first weekend in August. Probably the easest to get drawn would be west sandy. which is drawn on at the court house in paris. What I do with dekes is try to buy a dozen or half dozen every month during the summer. Which adds up quick. Same things with shells a box or 2 every month during the summer. I imagine some of the guys on here like tophat or some of the others would love to have you join them for the draw to increase there odds. I know I would but don't attend them anymore since I have a private lease. For the WMA hunting around here all you really need is a 14 foot jon boat with a 15 horse on it to get around or a small mud motor in case of hunting tigrett. Plenty of Public land hunting opportunities here in west tn.

Bayou meto as many duck as star in the sky sayin shoot me shoot me...just go buy some cheap dekes from bass pro for 25 a dozen and about 10 robos

How much is to enter your name in the draw hunts? When do you enter and when are the drawings and all that? I'm guessing TWRA will post all the information.

Also, what public places are worthwhile? I have heard good things about Shelby Forest, but I have also heard it can get so crowded that it's not even worth going.

Technically it don't cost you anything to put in at the draws. You just have to have your liscense including a WMA permit. Thats all you need. All you do is show up in August and put your card in the big barrel and they will start the draw at 10 o'clock. They turn the barrel and draw cards out and the person's name that is drawn has the option of which blind he wants for the year.

And for every duck, there's 3 guys in a duck boat trying to kill it:) Just from my observations this year.
