I took of work yesterday to go hunting, and had that good feeling that something was going to meet my arrow. Morning started off great had does and small bucks in the field all morning up till around 10-10:30. At around 12 I got down and went to the truck to eat and got back up in another tree around 1:30. After sitting there for a couple hours the deer started funneling back into the field at 3:30 the deer that I had been after for three years(main frame 10) came in my shooting lane at 22yards. I drew my bow and schwacked him clean pass thru, he ran off and I never saw him crash but I was sure off my shot so I got down and went back to my truck to give him some time and not push him and I called my dad and told him I finally got ole big boy and asked would he come help retrieve him.So when my dad showed up at about 5 we went tracking i figured we would find him down by the creek because of the bloodtrail looked like a murder scene. When i dropped over the creek bank I found what was left, someone had gutted and dragged him out within 2Hours of me shooting him. I hunt on a 600 acre farm to where me and the landowner are the only ones that are supposed to be hunting. I'm pissed this is my biggest deer of my life and some a**hole stole him right out from under me.
I do give the prick who got him some credit the only way out other than coming by where i was parked is to drag him straight up the mountain and thats what they did.

Rant over but I'm still pissed!

Couldn't you follow the drag mark/blood trail to find the guy. If it was that big if a hill it surely would have taken him a while to get out a big mature buck?

I did, and even drove around to the only other possible place to where you could park and walk in and found nothing but tire tracks.

I even went to the couple of checking stations and processors this morning and asked, but came up empty.

The only thing I could figure is that the tresspasser or tresspassers must have been close to where he crashed. I hope they choke when they eat him. I'm a firm believer in Karma and it will all catch up with you eventually.

Never thought of it but another good reason why I start the trail immediately.

Make sure you notify all taxidermists in the area. Bee good if you had a picture as well.

Good gosh!!   Did you attempt to track him down via his drag tracks? I'd have followed that trail to the bitter end I believe!

Had it happen to me in Alabama once and it sucks!

Call the GW ASAP if you haven't already. He will have a better network for finding this slob via processors, taxidermists, and word of mouth. If you happen to find out who it was, he either has an untagged deer or a deer tagged that he didn't kill. Either way, adds to the heap of trouble he may be in for trespassing in the first place. If you're lucky, you get your deer and he ends up meeting the law.

I'm not sure why someone would take another shot animal, then again they are such poor humans that they will probably claim they shot it.

I tell ya I have had this same problem in giles county . We have 2 ridges on the property of 150 ares we primarily only hunt one ridge me on one side my dad on another. We generally never hunt the other ridge just because we have never seen much there. Ever since we have heard shots on that ridge and farmer has seen flashlights and heard shots on that ridge I have made it my personal business to hunt that ridge every time I am there in hopes of seeing them or catching them. I might not see much on that ridge but catching a poacher vs killing a deer is ok with me. I would setup there or near the area. I hope you catch the scum bag

Dang that's sucks big time. my brother had someone do that too him.I told him that thats probably the only way they can get one is to steal from a other hunter.

There is one thing i hate more then a thief and that's a deer stealing thief Karma is going to come around to him or them who stole it trust me it did on the 2 that stole my brothers.

That sucks
My brother back in 1980 had the same thing happen
to him. Long story short back in those days in Missouri they
had big buck contest sponsored by Wal Mart. We found out
years later the guy took the deer entered it and won.

This happened to me on Ft. Campbell a few years back.

I shot a mediocre 8, let the dust settle for a few minutes, and started tracking the deer. I was a perfect shot, I saw the hole in the deer's side as it ran into the treeline. I spent 3 hours looking for em' that evening before going to the shack.

Low and behold, when I got to the shack. There my deer lay on the scale. I asked the guy where he got it, and he said the same area as I was in. He told me that he was sitting on the ground with his back up against a tree, and the deer walked right by him at about 10 feet away, and he shot it...

Went back the next day just to be sure, and spent another 5 hours looking. Never found a gut pile, ner nothin! I was pretty pissed to say the least. I went back to the shack, and told Greg what had happened. The guy never came back to Ft. Campbell! The following, the guy didn't even buy a permit to hunt on the Fort.

Sorry to hear your troubles. You're right, though, Karma will come around for em'!

Hate to hear this kind of thing. Pretty sad people don't have more respect for one another these days. Hope you find out who did it.

Wow, that's tough to swallow. I think even if I was trespassing I wouldn't take another man's deer. That's just too low :-)

Sorry to hear that man!! I believe if that happened to me, I would probably need major therapy. I might already just because of reading this. I wish I could say something positive to help.
I hope you get a bigger one!

had it happen to me one time an jackson county with a doe of all things. i started tracking it around the mountain and in the distance saw 2 fellers dragging it, down the mountain toward the road. i just followed them and kept my distance. when they got it to the road i confronted them and they did give it up. i did not even say thank you for dragging it out ;)
