Will y'all please quit obsessing about scent! Now it is farts and harnesses. What next, ear wax?

How often do you have to use the peroxide to get around the ear wax issue?

I understand what you are saying. It is absolutely amazing that folks in yesteryear, with small deer populations, ever managed to kill anything wearing their everyday boots and work clothes to hunt in.

I know a fella with no running water. He takes baths in creeks when he can. He has killed more deer than I could ever dream of. You can smell him coming down the road.

Haven't you heard? Deer are the same as they were years ago. They've evolved. Their smarter. They're harder to kill. At least they are according to Jim Shockey!

Now I need some ear wax remover. Thanks bowriter.

Speaking of body wax. Remember way back when we had arrow rests that squeaked when you drew an arrow back on them? Rub your finger on your nose and then wipe on the rest. The oil would silence the squeak. I bet that would make these scent freaks cringe.

I use no deer scent, very rarely wear camp and most of the time I wear my work boots. And btw I kill deer every year. Guess I am old school.

I started this year's deer season buying plenty of scent away spray, and soap

Now I am just using the body wash/shampoo when I shower before hunting. Laundry is done in scent free all natural soap anyway.

So far the 2 deer I have killed were both with no scent control or camo, so I decided to save money and quit buying so much scent away. Might just use a little of it through the rest of the season for my gear once in a while.

Don't fart, sweat, belch, pee, do #2, shed skin cells, exhale, get fuel on you, smoke, get smoke on you, eat breakfast, drink coffee, ware leather boots, use deoderant, and....................you can kill a monster buck!

Be careful of the "other" extreme. Using scent free soap and spray is not a bad thing, some people hunt areas with "tame" deer compared to the wma that you might hunt. Keep in mind that when you make a decision based upon one persons opinion you need to qualify it.
Example: Bowriter might laugh about scent free sprays and soaps, but BSK makes great attempts at using them and being completely scent free. Who will you listen too? (using them as examples)
If you seen a few deer how many did you not see because they smelled you a 100 yards away?

Scent free hunting is impossible.

BUT...when I scout (tweak) my stands on mature deer hunts, I want to be as clean as possible. When I hunt "everyday deer" I don't worry as much. I just play the wind.

So far, this season, I have arrowed 6 deer. 3 bucks and 3 does. ALL were UP wind at the shot.

I have been busted once, by wind. And have hunted "dirtier" and "stinkier" than ever before.

But these were all younger aged deer, except one.
BTW, shots ranged from 5 to 42 yards. All high pressured, public land except one.

Blood and Las Margaritas stench all over my camo. But a short walk in and out. And ZERO scouting. (I did this weeks before)

BUT...soon I am heading North for what I hope will be a big buck encounter on Public land. I will practice extreme scent precaution when going after these deer. They are tough, smart, wary and I will devote MANY days to filling my tag.

ALWAYS hunt the wind FIRST!

By my earlier post, I did not mean that I disagree with taking precautions. I just finished "several" loads of hunting clothes washed in the scent free detergents and then air dried on a line (I have great neighbors here in the city that put up with clotheslines, treestand painting, and deer being hung and butchered) and put up in scent free bags and totes. I'll take enough north for frequent changes.

But, I'll still realize that little breeze on the back of my neck can do me in.

The comment on the harness smelling came from 4 separate hunts where I have been winded by deer that have ended up downwind of me. To say that you shouldnt worry about it is asinine. My goal isnt to arrow button bucks all day.

I realize that you may kill a deer wearing turd pajamas and hunting the wind. But I'll use everything I can to stack the odds in my favor.

Good posts! While you can definitely get away with killing the young neighborhood deer while paying little attn: to scent or any other details for that matter. Once you start trying to kill older deer especially in pressured areas, being as scent free as possible will help I promise!
