Finally gave up the fly fishing trips for a hunting trip this year. Colorado buck here, spot and stalk rifle...

He's my first (169.25" gross):

Got in on some private land with a buddy. Killed my buck on the morning of the third day. Passed on a handful of bucks 130-150". Spot and stalk style stuff. I trained all year for the cardio, and the hunting was honestly way easier than our eastern woodland stuff. It was the packout that was terrible. I'll train for 2019 with more pack out prep work for sure. I could've deboned the quarters and it been easier. Lesson learned on being macho. Spot was done at a couple hundred and I closed to 60 yds. He was courting several does, had me pegged at 80 yds, but wouldn't leave the does and wind was good. Remington 700 7mm mag, bell and Carlson stock, Leopoldo vx-3i lrp pushing a Hornady eld 162 grain dropped him in his tracks. I killed him at 9,500 ft elevation in a thicker basin they'd moved into. I waited for this move and it certainly aided me closing the distance. I'd trained to shoot to 500, but I just love to shoot them close. It's more of a rush.

We saw several families of big horn sheep, a knock-down-drag out mulie fight with tons of vocalizarion, elk fights, bugling, caught some pretty trout on the fly, watched a Broncos game...heck of a trip.

I feel blessed to have been able to do it.

Thanks for the kind words!

Congrats on a great mulie.. I killed my 1st this year too, and not nearly as impressive. I ate the tenderloin last week, was delicious.

what area of CO ? Don't have to be specific.. I just moved out here, and I just WISH I could bowhunt the city limits ! Huge mulie's running around like pets
