This is my third year hunting and I killed my first buck last year with a rifle and never even drawn back on a deer before this year. I went yesterday evening and hunted on a ridge that was easy for me to access so I could get a good look at when/where the deer were moving. I figured they would be hitting a spring fed pond at some point and I was right...saw two does and a buck hitting that pond yesterday evening. I backed out slow and quiet and hunted over the pond early this morning. Right at 9am today this dude walked within 35 yards. I was shaking so hard my climber was rattling and I missed my first shot low but luckily he came back and I found my mark. Not sure how because I was still shaking really bad. He ran about 10 yards and dropped. When I pulled in the driveway I think my kids were almost as excited about deer jerky as I am about some steaks.
He's not a monster by any stretch but I'm proud to have my first bow kill and it's something I'm not sure I'll ever forget.
