My bow hunting is over

I lined up at my target in the back yard and squeezed the release and the bow exploded

poleaxe, you are not alone. I dry fired the bow. the string broke, and both limbs flew off. I had waxed the string but it was old, and probably why it broke when I dry fired

I thought I could take it to the shop and have a new string put on, but then I noticed the cam was bent, and found this:

I got this bow for $40 at the 'vous in 2011, previously owned by the one and only bowriter, and killed my first 2 does with it this year. I may not have paid much for it but it had a lot more value to me. I also have 2 bow-only hunting spots that I was looking forward to hunting as the rut came on. Unless I can borrow one that fits somehow, I am screwed for the rest of the season. I just dropped $300 on a rifle so I have nothing more to spend on a new bow.

Sorry that happened to you! That really blows, I'm sure you are upset no matter what the bow cost. At least it didn't put out an eye or worse when it exploded.

I have an old PSE compound you are more than welcome to borrow.
It is old and kind of big, but I killed my first with it. I think the model is a Phaser Flite.
You may not want it, its pretty big and not super fast. Think DL is 28 or 29

yeah the scar is on the inside really I could care less if it slapped up my wrist, that bow won't ever get to shoot again

I should have said on the original post that I completely forgot to nock the arrow. I would never intentionally dry fire a bow

some things must be learned the hard way

I guess on the bright side I have a rifle sighted in and ready to hunt gun season, and a ML if I can clean it out (it is filthy). still going to miss those bow-only spots, especially where I killed those 2 does

Do some Research and see if any limbs interchange? What brand is it

catman i got a high country bow thats in pretty good shape that you can have if you want it. needs sights and arrow rest. if you feel like making the drive its yours. just let me know

south fulton would take roughly $80 of gas if my truck gets 25 mpg. Jackson is a little closer but not much. If you could fit it into a box and ship it for less, I would pay you for shipping.

Catman. I hate it for you, but the good that comes from this is your ok other than a few cuts. If I had an extra bow I would deliver it to you. Mine wasnt so damaged. Just the bushings inside the cam were all that needed changed. So sorry. I hope my incident wasnt a curse.

That is for sure. Sorry it happened. That bow has been many miles and a lot hunting behind it.
