Monday- We are all getting ready for our big trip. Leaving Tuesday morning at 5:30 from Harriman. I'm gathering things to go and I decided to go and make sure the pop up and my truck has the same light hookup. It didn't so I had to get a converter for the ends. I had a 7 prong, and the camper had the 4 prong. After getting the right hookup we test it out. The converted started smoking and I had a grounding issue on the truck. After fixing that my brother in law called. He tried to pop up the camper and one of the cables broke that pushes up of the sides. So after all that time wasted trying to find the converter, fixing a grounding issue, we wasn't getting to take the camper anyway.
We go to plan B and decide to take my new tent I just got for Christmas.
Tuesday- Everyone shows up and we head to AEDC. We get there at 9:00 and as we are trying to figure out how to sign in, a few really nice guys shows up to help us out. They were checking in as well. One guy looks at our guns and says "You know AEDC is shotgun only right?"
OH CRAP, I didn't know. The regs says same as statewide on squirrel season. BUT on down in the Big Game it says Shotgun/ML only! I didn't think it applied or didn't even think that .22 would not be allowed! We had 3 .22 with us. We wasn't willing to pay out another $100 on the trip for a gun and shells. So 2.5 hour trip one way wasted!
Some of the guys said we can run up 10 miles to another WMA, Bear Camp Barrens WMA and try to hunt there. We ran up there but it was full of deer hunters and not alot of land to hunt.
We decided to go back home and stop by Genisess and maybe camp there.
We get there at 12:30 and decided to hunt first and talk about camping. We are only 45 min from the house at this point. But everything is packed ready to camp. Food and everything.
We eat a bite and run around looking at new areas, and let loose at 3:00. The dogs were treeing in holes, until 2 beagles ran up to us. We called the guy on the collar to find out they had been gone for 4 days and 3 nights. By the time he got there to get his dogs, we had 1 hour of daylight left. We ran the dogs for a sec, and decided to setup camp.
We go back to the checking station and undo my New tent. The box says 9'X9'. Yeah RIGHT! We figured it out before we left and figured we had enough room for us the cots and the heater.
WRONG. Enough for only 2 people!
Since we were only 45 min from home we grilled our burgers we packed made a camp fire, set around it eating and laughing at the crazy day we had. Nothing would go right.
Maybe next time we will take shotguns!
