I am new to this site, and since deer season is right around the corner, I wanted to post my pic of my 2007 Montana Muledeer.

Not exactly Boone & Crockett class, but it was the best buck I saw in over a week of hunting.

good deer i am tring to go to montana next year one of my buds moved out there he said I have to get into a drawing to get a tag did you have to do that? or was yours a guided hunt?

No, I had to get drawn for the tag. The drawing is held each year in April, but the application is usually due to be postmarked by March 15th. The odds of getting drawn can be hard, just don't give up. You should always invest in a bonus point, f.y.i. You could get lucky and get drawn the first year, you never know.

One thing about Montana...on a good day, you could easily see more deer in that day's hunting than in several years hunting in Tennessee. 100+ deer a day is not uncommon. Also, I have seen elk, antelope, white-tail, mule-deer, Merriam turkey, coyotes, badgers, ring-tailed pheasants, sharp-tailed grouse, and porcupines, all in the same day, and all within a few miles of each other, so it really can be like a wildlife paradise.

Nice buck for anywhere in Montana on public ground..... looks like he was killed pre-rut........Region 7 buck??

Yeah, he was killed in October, the 3rd day of season, so I believe that the rut was still in the upswing. It was a Region 7 buck...how could you tell?

Simple. He was heavy and no where near the 25% to 30% off his maximum body weight that being "rutted-out" causes. Region 7 because of the horn structure and prairie grass in the picture.

Great Region 7 rut action doesnt usually kick in until the 15th of November. Where county did you kill him in?

Great buck.

Did not draw a buck tag this year, but my father and grandfather did. I am still going, but I only I have a doe muledeer tag and a doe antelope tag. I will take pics and keep you updated. Only two weeks left.
