So Spring before last I regaled you with the story of my oldest son and I learning to turkey hunt and we got a respectable long beard.
This June, my wife and I bought a little piece of heaven. I spent the last couple of months getting property ready for deer season. My youngest and I went out on the youth hunt and saw nothing. This morning we sighted in muzzle loader and he took five shots without flinching and said "Dad, I can do this, but I'm not sure I can shoot an animal"
I told him not to worry, we were just going to watch some animals and spend time together. We went out to the farm and eased into a shooting house overlooking a juicy plot. Said a prayer, thanking Our Lord for the time together and his beautiful creation. About 4:00pm, this doe and two others came in . He manyevered quietly to get a good view and shifted twice as she walked behind a low walnut tree. He asked me if it was ok to shoot...I said. "Only if YOU want to"....he said " I do!"......I told him to pick the time when he had a clear shot.
Boom! smoke! flop. Power belt at 53 yds. My heart was beating faster than his.
He made sure we thanked God for the deer before we loaded her up. Was fascinated by the field dressing. A great day!
For the record, in reference to the "who wears facepaint?" thread, He likes facepaint better than a mask.....doesn't fog his glasses and he can eat.....his words.....
