Muzzy for kids?

Need little more info. How big is kid. Has kid shot rifle or shot gun before. The knight is 90 to 100 grains unless its been modified. I would try 240 xtp wit up grains of loose powder

I'd think the recoil wouldn't be too bad with 85 to 90 grains (by volume) with most any black powder substitute and with most any 240 to 250 gr bullet ---- assuming your concern is recoil?

I personally wouldn't want to go much less than 85 grains (nor less than a 240 gr bullet).

I have a friend who shoots a xtp(not sure of the size) and 80 grains of pyrodex in his Austin and Halleck. Says he gets his best accuracy with the combination....O yes, he doesn't seem to have any trouble killing a deer.

My son shoots 80gr 777 under a Barnes 250 expander 18.5 inch barrel youth stock. He is on the smaller side and it's not bad for him. Very bad for deer. 100 yards wouldn't scare me at all, but we set him up for closer shots.

Knight Littlehorn. 80 gr of Blackhorn 209 and 200gr TC Shockwave in the blue sabot. My daughter shot this when she was 9 with good accuracy.

Thanks. This is the gun I used as a kid and I couldn't remember what load I was using. I know I shot a .44 Sierra pistol bullet saboted back in the day. Will hopefully get to play around this week with it.

I killed them with 60 grains pyrodex and 240 grain xtps when i was a kid. I just didnt shoot over 50 yards. My wife uses 80 grains 777 with barnes xpanders and she has no problems.

I had one many years ago and shot 80-90 grains of pyrodex and used a simple lead buffalo bullet, can't remember the grain know it was over 300 and it shot good. I know a lot don't use lead bullets anymore but every deer I took with them was dead where they was. For shots under a hundred especially for a kid you might want to try this load/bullet combo. If you think that's to much recoil just drop powder load. Another point of using an all lead bullet is that lead will still compress (mushroom) with a lighter powder load. Seen many a deer killed with a good ole lead bullet and a light powder charge. You may have to set a range limit depending on the load. The best thing to remember is its not how far the kid can shoot but that the recoil is not so much to scare them and/or start them off with that nasty recoil flinch.

I've got it dialed in with 60 gr of pyrodex with a 245 gr powerbelt this morning. I was suprised how little reciol there was but the gun is also a tad on thd heavy side. Shots will be a max of 50-60 yards in the spot well be in on opener.

Man I know. I didn't take it that way. Im not touchy feely. LOL. I wasn't trying to be a smarty pants about the power belts either but honestly sooner or later they will get u. I have 13 members in my lease and when they came out everyone tried them because they were so accurate. Now 0 use them. Maybe they have improved.
