Muzzy cleaning question - ash?

First time for me.

I took the muzzy out of its case, inspecting prior to loading for the first hunt. On the nipple, I saw what looked like ash, but quickly wiped off and disregarded. Checking the nipple, I could see some blockage, so i pulled the breech plug. This is what I found. Anyone see this before?

It fell out when I turned the plug over.

I see a little everybtime I clean mine (777). How long has it been since that breech plug was out?

Last December. I remove every 2-3 shots. But after muzzy season, Full strip down, clean, grease, etc. but I do store with the breech plug in...do you guys store with the breech open?

I clean my gun after my last ml hunt. I store it without the breech plug in.

Assume that's a powder? What is the difference here that would reduce the ash/leftover I found in the plug? Does it burn cleaner, hotter??

Burns cleaner, much like smokeless powder. Do some searches on here and see for your self! I leave my muzzleloader loaded all year with no ill effects.

Maybe I'm totally misinterpreting what I'm seeing in the picture but it looks to me like the front end of a breech plug and looks like it's totally filled with crapped up powder. I'd guess it's been sitting loaded since last year with too much humidity. Don't see how that can be called a crud ring. Looks like a crud blockage.

Even so, it's still unnecessary. Blackorn 209 is basically non-corrosive and does not absorb moisture like Pyrodex powder.

But if it's cleaned off after firing, as he said he did, there shouldn't be anything inside the breech plug. And that's not mere residue, the entire hole in the breech pug is filled up! I use 777 pellets, but admittedly never fire my rifle more than 5 or 6 times, yet I've never seen anything but a thin layer of soot when I tear it down for cleaning.

I use pyrodex in both my muzzys and have never had a breech be that dirty after cleaned and stored.

In the cupped end of the breech plug, this material was just sitting there. And it was just like fireplace ash, I could blow it off literally with my mouth.

Now wondering if this is leftover fine powder that was somehow in the rifling after cleaning.

A couple more pieces to the puzzle that might get some good mocking out of you guys...
I moved this year, and this gun ended up being stored in a corner in its case, leaning against the wall vertically. I usually store it horizontally..

I am shooting 3 triple 7 pellets, .50 cal, and 350 grain FTPs.

I shot my SS CVA with Blackhorn on Saturday am, then reloaded without cleaning. Today I get to my stand and have some corrosion at the muzzle and will be discharging and cleaning tonight. I thought that BH was supposed to be less corrosive, but I am seeing differently. It does shoot cleaner than 777, but smokeless it's not.

The residue left after firing BH209 will draw moisture and cause corrosion. The powder itself before its fired will not draw moisture.

I had this same issue with my other optima. Those that say it's not corrosive are wrong.

It looks nothing more than burnt powder residue. If what I see in the photo, the cylindrical portion of your breech plug also looks to have fouling on it - looks flat black.
You may have clean/wiped you bore, but my have just forgot to clean the plug..
Next time at the range, shoot, then remove the plug to see what it looks like.

I remove the breach plug and clean it after every time I shoot the gun (unless I'm in the stand). It will build up eventually and clog up. I just carry a socket wrench in my pack. triple 7 pretreated patches cleans it right off.

I store my breech plug in my cleaning box in the off season
