Just an FYI for all those who thought that it did.
It is next Saturday.

I thought it did and so did a bunch of people that I know!
 
what are the indicators that it would open today ? maybe I'm missing something lol
 
sometimes my birthday falls on thanksgiving too :) cant keep track of how often but seems like every 6-7 years. I suspect the mzls is the same way if I looked at the calendar far enuf ahead. wonder who decided how many days in a year then invented leap year lol
 
It is frequently the saturday after the youth hunt but not this year. I talked to a fellow last Monday that told me of his plans for having 4 buddies to his farm today for the muzzloader hunt and asked me if I'd be out. When I told him it is the 8th he scooted over to a computer and came back laughing. Would you tell the officer: "Yes, the big hole in the deer is from a Rage broadhead"?

This is going to sound complicated, but it's not. Because of the way Thanksgiving is determined (4th Thursday of November), and the way the openers of gun and MZ season are linked to Thanksgiving (Saturday before, and third Saturday before, respectively), the range of dates that MZ can open is limited to 7. The earliest MZ can open is Nov. 3 and the latest is Nov. 9.

And because Nov. 1st falls one day later in the week each year, opening of MZ falls one day earlier each year (except after a Leap Year, when it jumps 2 days earlier). The transition point from earliest to latest is when Nov. 1st moves from Thursday to Friday. So MZ opener cycles from Nov. 9th down to Nov. 3 and then jumps back up to Nov. 9 in an endless repetitive circle. Looking at the date of MZ opener by year looks like this:

2013: Nov. 9
2014: Nov. 8
2015: Nov. 7
Leap year (skip two days)
2016: Nov. 5
2017: Nov. 4
2018: Nov. 3
2019: Nov. 9
Leap Year (skip two days)
2020: Nov. 7
2021: Nov. 6

etc.

Julius Caesar. He implemented the Julian Calendar in 46 BC, which establish a year as being 365.25 days, which creates the extra calendar day (Leap Year) every four years.

Of course, no one arbitrarily established the number of days in a year. A year is how long it takes the Earth to circle the Sun. That just happens to take a little over 365 days.
 
I was told by an older gentleman yesterday that it was ml today
i replied no its next weekend and showed him
he replied its a misprint. Its always the weekend after juvy Lol
Thankfully it don't matter he's on this quota hunt and said he was hunting here all weekend

I almost posted this too Last night. Last year there was a ton of confusion due to the Nov. 9th ML opener. Many on here as well as people I just ran into in stores really thought it opened Saturday Nov. 2nd because they thought it was the first weekend in Nov instead of 2 weeks before rifle.

Some on here had even taken vacation on the wrong weekend, and if I remember someone on here said openly they were going to use a ML regardless if it was season or not, because they couldn't change their vaca and weren't "wasting" it.
 
It opened a day later last year. Same confusion last year. There's a website and they print a book, so I don't get it....

Unless the process changes, here are your Tennessee muzzleloader opening days for the next 7 seasons. Mark your calendars! ;)

2014 - Nov 8
2015 - Nov 7
2016 - Nov 5
2017 - Nov 4
2018 - Nov 3
2019 - Nov 9
