Muzzleloader question.

So I have a cva accura v2 with 26 inch barrel. I usually load 110gr 777 loose powder and 250 gr thompson shockwave sabots. I got my gun out and shot it to make sure it was still on. I had a little bit of trouble with it last year. This year I'm only hitting a pie plate at 100 yrds. Yes that's a dead deer but I was consistently able to do that at 200 yrds. The mounts and rings are all good. Im thinking about changing loads. Maybe a heavier bullet and more powder. My question is what load do you shoot out of a similar set up?

If that load and bullet combination worked well in the past, I doubt it is the load and bullet combination. It has to be a change in the gun, such as internal barrel condition.

My buddy had issues with the Konus (sp) scope CVA sells as a package.

I had problems with the same scope on my cva took scope and replaced problems went away

The barrel is super clean. The scope is a bushnell buckmaster with bdc reticle. The bases and rings are factory. Everything is tight. The only thing I can think is I use "bore butter" I wonder if that could change things.

Bore Butter will ruin your rifellin had some friends use it to season the gun but it messed them both up

Stop using the Bore Butter, clean it out completely, and shoot again to see where you're at. My money is on the Bore Butter causing problems or you've got an internal scope issue.

I have the same gun, I do have a different mount and scope but I always use bore butter. I sighted mine in again this weekend. Shooting 100gr with 295 powerbelts touching bulls eye at 50 and just outside at 100. 20 yrs of hunting never had a shot over that.
I'd look into the scope.

Shoot an Accura v2 with 26 inch barrel as well. I use 115 grains loose triple 7 and 240 grain 45 cal xtp mag. Extremely accurate. Will print cloverleaf's at 100 yards as long as I do my part.

That's what I need lol. I think I'm going to toss the bore butter first .

I had what sounds like a similar issue. I have 2 Acura's. The first would stay in a pie plate at 100 but, barely. I sent it back to CVA, they sent it back with a 3 shot group at 100 yds that measured right at an inch using their Powerbelts and white hot powder. To make a long story a bit shorter, I was using knight sabots, 240gr XTP, 90gr 777 fffg. A person on here suggested I try HARVESTER sabots, I ordered some and they made ALL the difference I've used them extensively since. I used up my stash of .44 XTPs and 777 powder then out of boredom I switched to 63gr/weight blackhorn with harvester sabots and .45 300gr XTPs. They still are 1" at 100yds and kill like lightening. Apparently those Acura's which can be unreal accurate are a bit finicky about their projectiles.

Fwiw, I had to have cva swap out the durasight that came with my gun for the next higher mount. With the durasight mount that came with my gun, I could not pull the hammer back. My scope is a Nikon prostaff bdc 3-9x40. On my wife's accura mountain rifle, the Nikon inline scope I got her worked just fine with the durasight mount that came with her gun. Her gun is not quite as accurate as mine, and does better with a little lighter load, but still will easily put them in a 1.25 inch or under group at 100 yards. For hers we were loading it with hornady American whitetail 240 grain(interlocks) over 105 grains loose triple 7. Using Winchester 209 primers.

How does the bore butter hurt the rifling, just out of curiosity? I use after the season inside and out and clean real good before the season starts.

It doesn't. I've used it for 25 years, and it's done a good job on all my muzzleloaders. I don't lather it on, but use it sparingly. Sometimes if I'm going to be hunting in the rain, I'll wipe a little extra on the metal surfaces in my way out the door

Like these guys suggested...it's most likely something to do with the scope, scope mounts, or the bullet.

Have you tried any other rounds for comparison yet?
I hope you figure it out. You've got a little time if you act now.

If that load shot accurate in past it's the scope. I fixed countless accuracy issues that way. If it has never shot good it's too much powder. Those adds sell powder. One of those 2 usually fix a muzzleloader.

I don't like bore butter either, just light coating of oil after cleaning. I would fire a couple primers to dry my barrel before loading, but 777 from a clean barrel and dirty barrel in my Encore was night and day. This is why I switched to blackhorn and treat the ml like a rifle when cleaning and no cleaning between shots because it didn't effect the accuracy from a clean to a fouled barrel.

295 powerbelts, 80 grains by volume blackhorn powder. I use bore butter (something similar by CVA) to protect in off season and clean before season to remove it.

Sounds to me you have a scope issue. If nothing else has changed.

I had a Remington ML seversl years ago that went from 1-1.5 inch groups to pie plate sized at 100 yards. Turned out I had damaged the crown of the barrel

I did some research on top of the info I got from some of yall. I'm going with bore butter and ill tell you the reason why. I had bore butter on my sabots. This caused very little friction. In order for the bullet tp properly work there has to be some friction. It was super easy loading the bullets with the bore butter. I'm going to bet money on that. I'm going to go get some new bullets and try another load. The 777 I bought last week is fffg and not the typical ffg that I've been using. there is very little ffg left so I'm good there. I'll keep yall posted.

Ditch the bore butter.

Get some bear grease. I use it after cleaning the bore, after setting the smoke pole aside for the season, and a little bit followed by a dry patch when sighting in after two shots. I'll wipe down the barrel and other metal parts. No odor. I shoot a traditional muzzleloader.

Bear grease has a myriad of uses.

i dont know the guys that told me not to use it was when i first started muzzle loading both has since past or i would ask

With the 250 he shockwave, I would back down to 100 grains. Also, the bore butter,IMO, is going to decrease accuracy. I have used it in the off-season for storage only. I always start with a clean dry barrel!. I shoot 100 grains of 777 in my knight, Remington genesis, and my CVA wolf. All of them shoot 1-1/2 or under group at 100 yards. I shoot federal shotgun primers.
