I do not muzzleload hunt. I have never had an interest in it. I am a bowhunter and have always bowhunted during the ML season.

I do own a couple of ML's from my Dad when he passed. One of which is the Black Knight Lk-93. I need some recipe advice to help make this an easy setup for my 13 year old nephew. Does anyone know of a good bullet and charge. I do have some Pyrodex powder (don't know the granulation). I will need to purchase the bullets/sabots and I don't mind buying some pellets if that is better in this gun. I believe it is still setup for the original primers.

Shots will be under 50-60 yards. He is a big kid, so recoil is not a huge factor, but nothing crazy.

I had good luck with 100gr. (2 pellets) of Pyrodex pushing a 250gr. Barnes Expander.
 
Mine shoots just about anything I've tried. Loose powder or pellets...sabots, ball-ets, powerbelts. They all grouped well at 50 yards.
 
I 1st used 90 grains loose with a 240 or 250 grain bullet.
Then I switched to 2 50 grain pellets with a 240 or 250.
The LK 93 with a little practice is a tack driver with either load.
 
That gun will shoot good groups. The 90 gr of Pyrodex is perfect. I found the 240 gr Hornady XTP MAGs to shoot a little better than the regular 240 gr XTPs but are a little harder to load. At 50-75 yds, either will work fine.

You'd be wrong. As would the pellet fellow.
 
I had great luck with about any bullet sabot combo that I tried. They all seemed to work well with around 90 grains of pyrodex. I have heard all the debates about blackhorn in a plunger type gun and didn't have any bad luck with it in mine. I use it in my remington 700ml with no problems either. That being said there is no way I would take the chance with blackhorn in that rifle with a 13 year old kid.
