I have always hunted gun season only growing up but next year I plan to hunt all seasons. To my surprise my father in law gave me a Ml today he doesn't use anymore. It's a "Black Knight" 50cal in line with a Weaver 3x9 scope on it. He also gave me a box of 100 Hodgdon pellets, can of CCI #11 caps and a pack of 15 Powerbelt Copper .50 cal aero tip in 223 grain. Is this pretty good stuff to use to learn to shoot it? Is there better stuff to use when using it hunting?

I know nothing about muzzle loaders so any tips you want to throw my way are very welcome. Once I get my Crossbow for my birthday I will be set for all 3 seasons next year and am so stoked!

On the Crossbow I am leaning toward the Excalibur Axiom with Carbon Express Piledrivers tipped with 150 grain Excalibur Boltcutters.

Any advice on either?
 
The ML and everything along with it is good. I would use higher than a 223gr but it will work. And I've had trouble with the pellets this year in my ML that takes #11 caps so I will be switching back to powder next year or may get a new ML that's 209.

I would switch bullets for hunting. I have heard too many bad things about the Powerbelts not leaving a blood trail.
 
If you plan on using the pellets switch to the 209 primers. If you use loose powder the #11's will be fine. I shoot the 295 gr powerbelts out of my old knight and never had a problem.
