Muzzle loader advice

I Just picked up a traditions vortex break 50 cal muzzle loader. I have been shooting my knight lk93 for ever but decided to retire it this season. My question is what type of bullets preformed the best out of these style guns. And how much powder. I was thinking about hornady sst 250 gr pushed by 100gr of triple7

That's a good starting point but once I switched over to Blackhorn 209 powder I've never looked back.

Blackhorn 209 unless you like cleaning your barrel a lot. It is soooooo much better than 777.

Barnes makes excellent muzzleloader bullets. The all copper TMZ and T-EZ retain their mass and expand into petals on impact. Devastating effect on game.

I shoot a Traditions Vortek Ultra Light, probably almost the same gun as yours. I use the Traditions Smackdown SST 250 Grain bullet (which I believe is made by Hornaday) with 90 grain of Blackhorn 209 powder. I get 1 inch groups with that combo off a led slead at 100 yards. I have read where every muzzleloader is a little different, so you may have to toy with your loads a little. I know I did. Tried 300 grain bullet with 80, 90, and 100 grain of Blackhorn, and the 250 grain bullet with 80, 90, and 100, and any other combo other than the 250 with the 90 threw my accuracy way off, like 4-5 inch groups at 100 yards. Also, I use Federal 209A Shotshell Primers, as I found these work with the Blackhorn the best for me.
