Curious to see the answers. I've never heard of anyone "starting" mushrooms. I'd venture to guess they are either there are they aren't. A corn fed cattle pasture and mushrooms is another story but I doubt that's the kind of mushrooms you're speaking of, lol.
yugoake mushrooms are grown by cutting small oak logs, soaking in water, drill holes, place spores and seal. I ordered catalog to get spores. I have couple friends that do it, they aleays have pics of some nice dishes on facebook
Thinking about it myself. I'm just getting into mushrooms and can now ID four different types of "wild" schrooms here on the farm.
I can identify Morels, Bearded tooth, Oyster, and puffballs. Pufffballs are like eating a marshmallow!!
