Well since there is nowhere to buy a reasonably priced used mud motor frame and from everything I have heard about the longtails I have decided to go with a surface drive.
Talked to a friend of mine this weekend about it and since we can get engines for a fraction of normal cost we decided to go with surface drives.
We decided that we are both tool and die makers and, not bragging but, I can weld with anyone I have ever met in my life and if it is made of metal I can build it.
Got another guy we work with that has the plans and has built one himself.
I guess all that money my employer paid to edumacate me, might as well put it to use.
Updates to come later.
Dunno if we can get it done this season or not but we are gonna try.
Anyone have a surface drive with about a 23 hp motor know what kind of speed they are capable of?
