Mowing and Sowing question...

A buddy and I plan to selectively mow some this weekend. We will be moving both powerline areas and through brushy thickets.

We really plan to just open up 12 feet wide "paths" for the deer and us to enter, leave and hunt.

Both these properties have an ample supple of corn/soybean fields very close by. 100 feet to 1/4 mile away.

Here is the question:
Should we sow anything in these paths that we cut?
If yes, what should we sow?

Second question:
Should we fertilize the surrounding thickets that we do not mow, making the browse more appealing?

Fert would not hurt for sure on the thickets,may should have been done earlier in the year.

As far as sowing the paths now,would be a big roll of the dice ,IMO,with the temps getting up.May get rain may not.Buckwheat would be my choice,but still needs rain,and is faIrly expensive as well.

Id wait till fall.

If that's what you want just let the browse grow back. Nothing better than natural food from mother nature. Broadcast stuff over it in the fall if you want but I would just leave it. If you want a man made food plot that's a different story, if that's the case mow it at the end of August wait a week and take gly and spray. Then disturb the ground and broadcast what you want then. No way I'm doing it now guess im leaving it to grow wild. Just me though.

This Fall you could mow, wait a week or two, spray, and sow something right ahead of rain that will grow easily, like wheat, rye grain, etc.
