Don't shoot it. It might have a radio collar under that black mane and the whole world will freak if they find out.
AIN'T THAT THE TRUTH!

I am anxious for a mountain lion to show up on a trail camera. I expect it one day soon. They were setting camera traps for them in LBL and they suspect they are in the river bottoms of West Tennessee.
I'm actually surprised we haven't yet received multiple official confirmations from some areas of Middle & West TN. I wonder how strong the desire's been to actually confirm one (officially)? But when it happens, IMO, the most probable confirmation(s) will come from somewhere within a few miles either side the TN River, with LBL being an excellent, but not the only likely location.
There have been many solid sightings and credible evidence seen/found by very credible people over the years. Not to say that most sightings/evidence aren't mistaken identity (and/or escaped captives), but many have been credible, just not investigated soon enough or thorough enough to meet the criteria of becoming "official".
I don't believe there are any breeding populations of wild-origin cougar anywhere in Tennessee, not to say there couldn't have been for a short while during the past few decades. But I do believe many young males have roamed thru. What happened to them is anyone's guess.
In the meantime, it remains extremely difficult to get a 2nd sighting or gather any evidence on
ANY animal that just wonders thru an area a single time in its entire life cycle. But they will keep coming, and eventually there will be official confirmations. And by the way, a trail cam pic is
NOT an official confirmation. It has to be DNA evidence to confirm wild-origin. Any confirmed "sighting" will otherwise be assumed to be an escaped captive.
