Motor question

Picked up a little 3hp gamefisher to try out on my John boat, starts and runs fine for about 5 min on the water. Then it spits and sputters and eventually quits . Wait a minute and it runs fine again and does the same thing, could it be running too lean and getting hot?

That's an old motor isn't it? I have a Ted Williams motor from the 70s that needs work but it uses 24:1 ratio

I have one just like yours . Make sure the square button on the gas cap is loose so it can pull air just unscrew the button a little and it should run fine .
