I got to thinking, what do y'all get the most request for when sharing jerky among friends and coworkers?

The jerky flavors I have made to date are regular/black pepper, cajun, jalapeno, ghost pepper, teriyaki, BBQ, and an experimental batch of honey habanero, which needs work, I wasn't pleased with it. Only made one batch of teriyaki so far, going to make another hot version soon per request.

The cajun is probably the most requested, and jalapeno is also really good, one of my favorites. Black pepper is requested mostly from people who have no heat tolerance, cause it's one of the only non-spicy that I have made. I made one batch of BBQ that needed more salt - most said it was a little bland, one said it was really good.

There are also a select few people among friends and coworkers who request the ghost pepper. I use dried peppers ground up and sprinkled with salt on top of the meat before turning the dehydrator on. Standard marinade recipe for the meat. The flavor is very good, I like it myself, but have to be careful especially on an empty stomach, as the stomach ache is no fun. The burn is slow to build but very intense. Some people can't even handle it from the start, while others ask for more. I thought that was interesting that I find myself making more of the hottest jerky I have made, because enough people have asked for it and will eat it and share it with their select few friends who also like it.

Now those flavors are all that I have made, but I am not done experimenting. I still want to try making roasted garlic, and maybe an A1 steak sauce flavor. While I'm at it, can yall recommend any other flavors I should try and make? But first, tell me what people come back to you asking for most.

I have experimented with different marinades over the years but have come to regular base that I use. For extra heat, some cayenne and black pepper can be added. I added a couple teaspoons of montreal steak seasoning to my last batch and it was a hit with family at Thanksgiving. I will probably add it to my base from here on. I did marinate a batch a few years ago in wickers with a couple teaspoons of lousiana hot sauce. I didn't care for it but it was different. The wife liked it and it was a hit at her work. So while she worked there I made it. Might give it a try. Wickers marinate and a couple teaspoons of lousiana hs.

I think people over think the idea of seasoning jerky just plain salt, pepper is all you need.
Although a coworker made the best jerky I ever ate but would never tell his secret.

I posted a recipe for an apple cider vinegar jerky a few weeks ago. I think it's very good.
Dang vermin... I must have missed it. Is it in the cooking forum? I love me some apple cider vinegar. I even made some refrigerator pickles this year in apple cider vinegar.

I'm a huge jerky fan but not a fan of all these fancy flavors that have hit the shelves recently. A little salt and pepper is all you need. I like jerky because I want to taste the meat, not some masking flavor.

Next time we go fishing I'll volunteer to taste any new experiments though! :tu:

I brought two kinds of salt and pepper to work this morning...black pepper and ghost pepper. They both use the same basic marinade which is 2:1 water to soy sauce with salt and a few different seasonings.
