Mossberg 535 or...

I have the 500, but I kind of impulse-bought it; in fact, its not even the gauge I was looking for.
Anyway, should I decide to sell my 500 to help purchase my next pump gun, should I get the Mossberg 535, or are there any other shotguns out there for about the same or cheaper?
I'm looking for multi-barrel options, and a 3.5" chamber that can take 2.75"-3.5" shells.

This is my all around favorite shotgun. Other than a home defense Mossberg the Supermag is my only shotgun now. I bought a 535 when they first came out because it was one of the lightest,best feeling shotguns I ever shouldered. But Lord have mercy that thing would POUND you with a 3-1/2 inch turkey load. I sold it and got the 870 which is pretty much a safe queen. I mostly use it shooting 3-1/2 inch 00 buck when I'm dog hunting deer in SC.

If you are wanting a great turkey gun i would go with a mossberg 835.I have never seen a 870 that would out pattern a 835.

That and my southpaw-shooting habits are kinda affected by safety/slide release placement on 870s. They're smooth, and light, and compact... but I need something I can utilize easily when needed. What's the greatest difference between the 835 and the 535?

The 535 is just a model 500 with a 3-1/2" chamber. Normal bored barrel and very light for a 12 gauge.
The 835 was designed entirely around the 3-1/2" round. The barrel is overbored to keep shot from deforming. No other shotgun made by anyone in any brand will pattern as well as the Mossberg 835 straight from the box. Guys that own one of the big expensive guns get embarrassed regularly by the 835. They simply have a difficult time when a sub $400 gun shoots tighter than their $1500 Benelli or Browning or Beretta or Super X
For turkey the 835 cannot be beat. It is however big and heavy and clunky. Not particularly well suited for waterfowll or other wing shooting.

i'm a lefty that has no problems with the slide release or safety on the 870. i wouldn't take 3 mossbergs for 1 870.

i'm a lefty that has no problems with the slide release or safety on the 870. i wouldn't take 3 mossbergs for 1 870.

I've used my dad's wingmaster 20 gauge before, and as smooth, gorgeous, and trusty it is, I just cant get my finger around the trigger guard to hit the safety on it in time. but... in the turkey field time isn't as essential as in the rabbit hole. I'm going to head over to the gun shop soon and see what best suits me.
Didn't mean to start the old remington vs. mossberg argument :D
