Mossberg 4x4 Rifles

Anybody have any reviews or input on these guns? I'm looking for a cheaper gun that I'm not too worried about getting scratched.

I'm really interested in the Marlin rifles but they are on backorder for what I need.. Looking into different options.

I would wait and get the Marlin. I have seen some stuff on 24hour about the bolts coming apart on the Mossbergs. The Rem 770 and Mossberg would be at the bottom of the barrel IMO, the Stevens, Savage, Marlin route will get you a better rifle for the same money. I wouldnt look away from the used rack as well, you can find some used 700s, 70s, and 77s for about the same price.

I have read some Marlin rifles have issues with misfires. The forum on basspro shops website and 24hourcampfire there have been instances where the trigger was pulled and nothing happened. They are very accurate from what I've read though. I have no first hand experience with either.

I'm really at a loss on what to do. I like the idea Kimberman had about looking for a used gun. I'm just kinda leary about buying used guns, you never know when some yahoo put abunch of hot rounds down the barrel.

Thats the first I've heard about the Marlin's misfires. I'd like 2 find a 70 or m77 for around 350-400 bucks. Doubt that will happen.

For an inexpensive, good, proven rifle I would go with the Stevens 200. Next would be the Marlin. There have been an instance or instances of the Mossberg being able to fire with the locking lugs out of battery because the bolt handle slipped on its splined attachment. Needless to say that is a BAD event. PH

I have a malin x-bolt in a 270 and its a great gun for the money. I have no complaints.

Savage package forunder $400 or the weatherby vanguard. Both about the same price. The weatherby is a good gun.

This is true, they have the 110's for $389 w/3-9x40 scope.Great guns.

Alright I'll take a look at them. I just don't wanna spend alot of money on a brush type gun.

looked at the 4x4 but wasn't too impresses. i ended up getting a remington model 770 in .243 youth. got it for a multipupose yote, deer, hog gun. it's been treated pretty rough over the past 2-3 years and has held up great. the bolt sucks but it's a good BANG for your buck. i would buy it again and highly recomend it in the cheap rifle catagory. trigger is nicer on the 770 too.

i bought my marlin xl7 in august 2009,it was priced 269.99 at bass pro,mine is a 270,but now you can get any caliber,have taken 11 does and 2 bucks with it,hunted in extremely cold temps,rain,sleet,never a missfire or any problems at all,i also have stevens model 200 in 7mm,i absolutly love both guns,i do favor the marlin because of the accu trigger style trigger,either one would be a better choice than the rem 710,770 in my opinion.

I hear ya man, wouldn't even consider something else if I could find a Marlin in camo/s.s 7-08 cal.

Good luck with finding the Marlin in a camo stock. I got lucky and found my 270 in camo at the franklin gun shop last november. The guys there told me that marlin only made a certain number of the guns in 2009 and its going to be hard to find one until they restart production this year. Good Luck!!!

I know it's hard to find them, I've been looking for several months. I also found out tha Marlin started selling just the camo stocks.. but production slowed down cause people were only buying the stock, and not the gun anymore.

I'll come across one soon.. No rush

I bought a Mossberg 4x4 25-06 and you couldn't ask for a better shooting factory rifle.With 51 grains of IMR 4350 and 100 grain Nosler B.T. I shot 3 holes that you could cover with a quarter at 100 yards.Mine has the free floated barrel and the Lightning trigger that you can adjust down to 2 pounds.Here are some pic's of mine.

i got the one in the pic at wally mart i think it was about $330 but i may be a little off. the 770s come with a 3-9x40 scope. I did a little rattle can art work on it they come all black. Last time i was in there they still carry them.
