Don't know if you are aware of this product but it comes highly recommended by several friends. Apparently very effective at mosquito control and can be used multiple times for a minimal cost. On sale at Wally world for about $4.00 I'm trying it.

 
Hard to beat thermacell. I'm working on converting mine to take the conair cartridges. Bought ten cartridges for $5.

What type of conversion is required??

Supposedly there is an adapter to use so the conair cartridges will work. I believe some minimal modification of the thermacell is required. Not sure though haven't tried it yet. Just got the adapter.
 
Gotta be thermacell, I have never had a scent issue with my thermacell, suppose to be scent free? Either way it beats gettin eat up buy skitters and no see ums!
 
I have a thermocell but last year i used the off thing with the fan in it during turkey and bow and it worked great

Not sure if you guys have used Sawyers repellant. I have used it two seasons now and it is great. You spray it on your cloths the night before(only spray on cloths not meant for skin). Once it dries it is good for three or four washes. I have watched mosquitoes fly around my clothes but they won't land. It is the craziest thing. Anyone else used it?

Thermacell for me too. Anybody that says they don't work, must not of had it turned on. A buddy of mine was talking about how bad the skeeters were last year where he was hunting. I told him to get a Thermacell unit. He said he already had one and it was a worthless piece of junk and didn't work. He said he would give it to me if I wanted it. So we got together when he came to help move a treestand of mine, and an evening hunt. I had my Thermacell on my belt and before we got in the woods, I turned it on, clicked the button to light the butane...and he stood there looking at me puzzled. Long story short here...he had been turning the unit ON but hadn't ever lit the butane...thus I guess it really was worthless in the way he was using it. After he saw how it worked and that we had no skeeters around us, he decided he would keep his unit. Now it's one of the best things ever to him.

They for sure aren't scent free though. But then again...what truly is scent free? Nothing. Everything has a smell to it. Even the scent free spray stuff has a smell to it to me LOL.
 
Mine has been turned on, butane lit, etc. and I can tell no difference. I do what Henke 3663 does, I spray my clothes and hat, let them dry and never get bothered and don't have to worry about carrying something else into the woods. I have tried it numerous times on the lake, windy and no wind days, absolutely no effect on the mosquitoes.
 
I would like to shake the man's hand who invented the Thermacell lol. Like one of those beer commercials "here's to you Mr Thermacell man"

You forgot to add the repellant mat!!! :D :wink:
 
If you tried it on the lake and the boat was moving under the power of a trolling motor , that may have been the problem . They work better in a stationary position . Try one in a tree stand , then get back with us .....
 
On one side of my parent's place, is a low and flat creek bottom. In rainy years (such as this one) it has lots of standing water that skeeters find a haven to. Those years are especially bad for getting "ate up" by them. I've been there before when the woods where just a constant "hummmm" where you could hear them by the millions; and in some cases, you could look up into the sky and just see little dark clouds of them. It reminds me of seeing them on TV when they would be in Canada or Alaska on bear hunts. I've been in those woods many days and came out looking like I had chicken pox all over again from the skeeter bites. Since finding the Thermacell, it's something that rarely leaves the belt side while visiting over there or going to work on stands. You've got to have it on even while sitting at a picnic table or something in their yard in the evenings, or the skeeters just wont leave you alone.
