Soft points are out there, may have to have a dealer order some for you. I wouldn't do it with FMJ even if they were legal. With soft points it's a very good round. Sort of in between .308 and .30-06.

You don't need a dealer to order ammo, can order it yourself.
Gunbot.com or sgammo.com often has it.

Yeah the MN has plenty of power; as others have pointed out you have to use soft point ammo and have the ability to hit what you aim at with the open sights at your chosen range. The difficult safety operation is problematic with a MN so be careful.

And don't forget to purchase a PAST recoil pad (magnum oh yes) for range time when you try to sight it in. You can wear it under your shirt so other Mosin owners won't laugh at you. I know this works.

Mosin owners tend to become slightly different, purchasing safe's full of these guns. Look for matching serial numbers, bores that have not been worked over, and muzzles that have not been cut off or used as tent stakes. There are some great Mosin owners club type web sites, I love their T-shirts.

Graf's tends to be the best place to pick up ammo, reload components, and Mosin pieces and parts. Or just buy another one and part it out. And the very best news of all? Boyds has aftermarket stocks that are better engineered and while they don't make claims, I hear recoil is reduced.

Some of the Mosin's are quite accurate.

Sportmans Guide has the spam can 440 round packs right now. Never would have thought it would be as cheap as it is to shoot. You still have the dovetail or have you converted it to a scope yet?
