Ok from my last topic on the 1911..... I am looking into the "plastic" guns :grin:

Any of you guys have experience with the Springfield XD-M's?

The HK is more ergonomic, but as far as being "superior", that is up to debate. Glock is the way to go in a polymer gun. The Glock only has 35 parts. That includes the magazine, all it's parts, sights, and the other major assemblies. Most revolvers have more parts. Also, there is an endless supply of factory replacement parts (you probably will never need them though). Magazines can be had for $20. HK mags cost $40 and up. Same w/Springfield. Also, you can buy (2) Glocks for the cost of an HK. Bottom line, go to a good gun range, rent all of them, and go w/what shoots/feels best. Also, don't forget the FN line of pistols. They are modeled after the Sig series of pistols and are nice for a low price. They also have a hammer.

Glock would be at the bottom of the heap IMO, but thats because they dont point well for me. I have an XD and its a nice gun, but I dont get all worked up over plastic guns, they are just a functional weapon to me, I cant get attatched to them like I can a Sig, 1911, or wheelgun. Of the plastic guns I have owned, I liked the S&W M&P the best. I dont understand the fixation with Glocks, they dont do anything exceptionally well, other than function. They arent overly accurate, they feel like a brick, the grip angle is different than almost any other handgun out there, and they are butt ugly.

The fixation is they function. They don't fit alot of people, but I have big hands and they feel fine for me. Lock one down in a handgun rest and see how accurate they are. It's shooters who are inaccurate. They aren't ugly, just different. For what they are, they are marvels of engineering.

Especially considering they've been around since 1982. I really like my H&K USP, but I really like my Glock too. Both are equally reliable and accurate as far as I can tell. The H&K grip is a little more sucure/comfortable for me but it's not a huge difference.

I cant speak for anything other than Glocks. Both are very comfortable in my hands and I have no problems hitting a target at 25 yards. Additionally, having handled 1911,s and Berettas, the Glock is the easiest to break down.

It's been my limited experience that if you shoot a Glock well you won't hit a barn-door with anything else...and vise-versa.
