I didn't see my first deer till 11 am this morning. My cameras had movement around 3 and 4 am this morning - so they were taking advantage of the full moon.

I think they move just mid day during full moons. But during the rut - you just sit in the woods as much as you can.
 
I hunted all day except from 12-2, last morning deer I seen was at 11:20am and then again at 4:45pm. From sunrise to 11:20am I did not go more than 1hr between sightings. All young bucks either chasing a doe or scent checking.
I have not seen a mature buck in the last week. Odd year for me but it is what it is because people are still seeing and killing them.

I drove to up to Maryland Tuesday night and have sat all day sits every day since on private land that I'm used to seeing consistently 20-30 does a day, and during the rut I always see big bucks. Ive put in about 40 hours in the stand up here and hunted all last weekend in TN. Well this year has been terrible for this trip. I saw very few doe and a few small bucks. Cams had some movement between 2-4am, and I saw a few usually around 10am. Hardly what I expected and took off for. My buddy hunting down the road experienced the same, mostly small bucks and few doe. I think they ate rutting because 81 was littered with splattered deer, and I also had to dodge quite a few deer each night driving. I just think most of the action is happening at night and I haven't had a good buck slip up for me. Unfortunately I have to get back to the work life in TN so I'm giving it til 11 before climbing down and heading back south
 
Consider this... a deer can see just fine to maneuver around and feed at night in the pitch black darkness. Why would anyone think that because of a full moon night that they could see better to move and feed? If there's any relation to deer movement and full moons I would think it'd be because of some type of magnetic pull or effect rather than the brightness created.

Poser... The problem with that theory is that for the most part, hunters claim the deer don't move as much during daylight following a full moon night because they fed so heavily before daylight. I just don't see them doing more feeding simply because of a moon phase. Possibly because of it being so much lighter on full moon nights they "feel" as if they've already experienced daylight movement and bed down earlier. Still they're on a feeding cycle and experiencing hunger pains. If they omit feeding in the early part of daylight they may feel the urge to feed again earlier than normally thus better movement on early afternoon hunts.
 
check the position of the moon. when the moon is at 12 oclock position either at day or night, thats when you will see more deer movement. there is research to back it up. when my brother and i were into hard core deer hunting thats when we would be in the woods.

in the "deer moving in mid tn" thread, thats why i suggested late morning to mid afternoon hunts this week. and by the way, i saw that nice 8 point on columbia hwy again yesterday at 1am chasing a doe across the road lol.
 
I haven't seen as many deer during daylight hours but I blame that on temps and drought conditions

I never see squat when the moon is full. Never have. I have no other explanation except that the moon is to blame. Who knows. Slow hunting is still a thousand times better than being at work!

Weather is a much bigger factor imo. For example this past wknd I sat daylight till dark Sat and Sun, Moon very nearly full as you all know. Sat morn was warm at 45 for low, deer started moving from 9-11 am then 330 till dark. Sun morn was much cooler at 35 and frosty, Deer actually moved all day with me never going an hour without seeing deer from daylight till dark. Same moon both days, just much cooler morning to start the day on Sun?
 
Charles Alzheimer has made a career talking and reseaching this very subject.

I think to a certain extent his theory's hold water.New moon seems to be a better option in the morning than a full moon.

Most all studies show no consistent correlation with moon phases and deer movement.
Alzheimer has some good marketing tools.
