I bought Montecs in carbon steel and a pack of the regular type steel.

They were dull out of the package and I can't seem to get them any sharper.

I'm using a new G5 sharpening stone. I've watched G5's video and I'm doing what they did, with no luck.

How do you guys get them sharp?

These Montecs fly like my field points so I'd like to use them.
 
Use progressive finer stones. I'd start with a 240 diamond and then ceramic or water stones 400, 800 and then 1200-1500. After that I'd get some stopping compound and put that on some cereal box cardboard and polish. Should be sharp at the end. Hold heads by pinching the top blade and not by arrow shaft.
 
They're sharper than they feel. I guess it's because of the angle. They're more cleaver than razor. They fly well, penetrate well, slice flesh, and effectively kill. But don't expect to shave hair off your arm with them. I used them for a bit and had zero troubles. They cut.
 
I'm pretty sure Montecs are 30 degree angle. On one hand they're SUPER easy to sharpen even if you can't sharpen but on the other hand you're probably not going to get them shaving sharp. But they are fine. I switched to Montecs around 2006 from Thunderheads because I was tired of replaceable blades falling everywhere when I unscrewed them. I can get them to feather paper and that's more than enough.

Remember a good kitchen knife is usually 15 degrees and a good camping knife is 20-25 degrees. I wouldn't go camping with a kitchen knife, it's edge is too brittle for what you'd be using it for.

I shave with a straight razor so I'm wet stone poor but out of the pack I do 8 passes per side on a 600 diamond, 8 passes on 4000 stone, 8 passes on 8000 stone and 8 passes on a 10,000 stone and finish with 1 pass per side.

In 17 years I've blown thru over 100 doe. I think I have 18 of the regular Montecs and I think at least 6 have been thru a deer before.

When paying as much as you do for broadheads, you should never have to sharpen them new out of the pack. Just my 2 cents.
