First off, this deer kill was pure luck & being @ the right place @ the right time. Some of you may remember back on July 1st I posted where I tore my achillies playing basketball. The Doc said I would miss bow season and possibly black powder.
Well, I have worked my tail off in rehab. I got the green light to bow hunt a week ago. Although, I am only allowed to walk, no running or jumping etc.
I have been super bummed about not bow hunting, being in a cast for 2 months and don't get me started on crutches. So I haven't been able to put stands up or do any scouting at all. I took my climber out this evening after work not knowing what to expect.
I went to a tree where I knew I had seen deer in the past. I had 2 does @ different times down wind blow at me but never could figure out what was wrong. As I am up in the tree I am thinking my wife (pregnant) prob needs my help with our 2 yr old and just to give her a break. It's starting to eat at me so I tell myself I will get down @ 6:30.
At 6:28 I figure what's 2 min so I start packing up and have pull rope in hand fixing to attach my bow. At that moment I hear movement to my left and see a big body jump into some brush. Now I am kicking myself for getting up to early and being careless. I thought the deer saw me moving and took off. I decide to sit back down and hope I am wrong. 5 min later he came walking out of the brush he jumped in and I immediately start shaking. I see his body, rack and know he's a shooter. I range him at 37 yards and feeding closer. He moves to 29 yards and I let the arrow fly. I hear the sweet shwack and know I nailed him. He sprints about 25-30 yards and does the wobble. I watch him fall into the death role and then get the shakes all over again. That is my story of my lucky 8 pt buck.
My wife is not a hunter and does not get on this forum but I would like to thank her for letting me do what I love.

Oh, when you said SMACK DOWN, I thought you had fallen out of a tree. Good deal, glad you are okay.

Thanks bowriter! I never get into my stands without a vest on. Matter of fact I left the house yesterday without it. I didint go to far when I realized I left it. So back home I went.

Good on you! Ive had to do rehab a few times and I know it sucks. But nothing like a little hunting motivation to make you oush through. Glad to see your hard work paid off big for you. Nice buck
