They are feeding on grub worms. Kill the grub worms and they will go somewhere else to feed.
You can also spray your yard with one of the commercial sprays that are castor oil based.
Traps work pretty good if done correctly. You need to walk around the area where they are active and step on the tunnels. The ones they repair are travel runs vs feeding tunnels. You need to set the trap where you find active travel runs.
