Model 70 question

I have a model 70 from the late 60's. How do I remove the original sights? they interfere with the sight picture in my scope. I removed the screw from the front sight and it didn't budge.

Those should be Williams sights on that one,if so...

Front- Remove the blade/bead/sight cover if still on it,sildes out to the front and tap out the front blade/bead from the ramp,small punch and hammer needed,remove both screws from the ramp.There is one visable on the rear of the ramp the other is under the blade/bead.

Rear- 2 pieces-Loosen the screws on the elvation blade and remove it from the sight ramp to get to the screws that hold the base in place.

Might have to lightly and I mean lightly tap the ramps to get em off due to time and possible rust under them,would not hurt to use some penerating oil around the bases and there screws.

Replace all the parts back onto the ramps and bag'em for safe keeping.

Get some fill screws and place'em in sight screw holes on the barrel to protect them,can be found at almost any place that mounts scopes usally they give'em to you,that is unless you have some around.

BTW-If by chance there in house Winchester sights there should still be a screw under the front blade/bead on the front ramp unless there the soldere on type unlikely but possible as they did use some that were tha type then you will need a porpane tourch to remove the front ramp. If memory serves correctally the in house sights used a dove tail type rear sight.
