Mode 7 or M77

Looking at youth rifles for my daughter..Shes 2 btw. Itll be a few yesrs before she needs it but id like to get it now.Its killing me.. lol. Anyway im looking at the remington model 7 and the ruger m77 both in youth models and both in 7mm-08. I love my Rem 700 never owned s ruger rifle. In you guys expert opinon, which is the better rifle?

I bought my son the model 7 youth and he loved it.
In the .260 it packs a little punch being so small and light though.

I am sure the M77 is a fine rifle. I had one (not the youth model) years ago and it was good.

Other than that, I am worthless for information.

You've got the cartridge nailed. I'm partial to the Model 7 and even more so to the 700s. I've got a little Model 7 in 7mm-08 that I put in a full size stock and it's a handy little rifle. Only complaint I have is the 18.5" barrel can get noisy in close quarters.

M77, but if you are not opposed to Winchester look at the compact feather weight. I bought one for the kids in 7mm-08 and find myself using it more then my other rifles...

I know that this doesn't address your question, but you might look at the Marlin X7Y. I bought a youth model in 7mm08 for my daughter several months ago (she is 2 also, so it will be a few years before she is ready for it) and put a Minox ZA5 2-10x40 scope on it. I just sighted it in at 75 yards with Remington Managed Recoil 140gr CoreLokt ammo and was getting less than 1" groups (not off a bench, just shooting seated) and there is basically no recoil even though it is a very light rifle. I'm thinking about putting a stock extension on it and hunting with it myself until she gets old enough to use it. Not the prettiest gun in the world, but the action is very smooth and the trigger is actually very good to excellent.

BTW, I very highly recommend the Minox scope. I don't have a Ziess to compare it to, but I like it much better than my Nikon Monarch scopes I have on my centerfire rifles.

Hard to beat a Model 7, but get the 20" barrel if you can.

By the sounds of it im compareing apples to apples here. Ive never handled a M77 before. Im sorta leaning towards the model 7. Im just gonna have to find one of each and compare them side by side. I want to get her a rifle that'll last her a lifetime. Ive got a minox ZA5 2-10x40 on my smokeless muzzleloader that I really like. Ill probably go with another one of those.

You can get a youth stock for a model 7 as well, it will do anything you ever need it to do.

I have 2 m77 compacts and they are hard to beat.. Small enought for a kid but not so short most adults can't shoot them too.

own m7 stainless and a M77 hawkeye stainless - M7 is lighter than the 77 - the 77 is my go to rifle is very accurate & just love the way it feels in hand & on my shoulder. but am putting a M7 together for my daughter who inormed me a few weeks back she wants to hunt with me next season (she is 19) and i could not be happier about that!

Have handled model 7's before. They handled great. I own a m77 tang safety in 30-06. I have NEVER been a remington kind of guy. Never owned anything remington so id have to go with a m77.

x4 although I will say I almost bought the ruger m77 hawkeye a year or so back. Very nice rifle imo.

I own an m77 hawkeye and absolutely love it. I think its just as if not more accurate than a 700 or 70 and it is more reliable.

I have a model 7 in the 260 rem and it's a sweet little gun. I shoot 120gr federal nbt's because 140gr is too heavy for the 9 barrel twist. From what I've read, that twist won't stanslize the bullet and I've seen that to be true.

Both are great rifles, I own both but hunt with a 30 year old 77 ultralight that looks new. No matter what you choose, keep it clean and dry and your grandkids will be using it. Good luck.
