I'm looking at getting into a mobile system next season. I think I'm leaning more towards a hang on opposed to a saddle. Has anyone had any experience with Nested Treestand Systems? I'm currently between them and XOP. Just can't find any reviews on the Nested systems.

That system is cool!! So there are also hybrid saddle/platforms you may also want to look at if you already have sticks.

I know they are pricey but I can't say enough good things about my lone wolf custom gear stands. Every other loc-on system is designed to mimic what they do and they all come up short IMO. I am a very mobile guy and I'm on the short side so I lean towards small systems that are quick and more importantly quiet. I use the LWCG .5 and I run (2) 17" sticks w/ aiders. I swear it's poetry in motion setting up in this thing!

How high can you get with it?

maybe 13' if I stretch out. I'm only 5'8" so if your taller you could get up a little more, however I don't hunt very high anymore. I'm much more into having cover in my setup over height. If the kill tree I need to be in doesn't have the cover I need I will add it during my setup by using a cam jam with paracord that I keep in a small pouch under my seat along with a small folding saw.

I run exactly the same set up....LWCG .5 and bought 4 of their V2 double steps.

I'm 62 years old, 5'10", 205 lbs with size 12 boots

I originally tried 2 sticks, each with a 3 step aider and was able to get my feet to just about 15' with just those 2 sticks. The only negative comment from me on that set-up was that FOR ME, coming down in the dark on that first long aider felt a little sketchy.

That said, since I also already had a couple of 2 step aiders I tested 3 sticks, one with the 3 step and the others with 2 step aiders and I think that's ultimately what I'll run.

I put the stick with the 3 step aider on from the ground and then carry the other 2 sticks with 2 step aiders one on each hip as I climb.

That will give me an extra 1-2' in height (really don't need it...) and seems a little more stable with less sway on the aiders coming down.

I've debated giving a saddle a go but this seems like something I'd be more inclined to use from time to time. How long does it take for you to go up a tree and then how about coming back down? I'm guessing you use a lineman's rope to secure yourself to the tree before you get started?

Well...being honest, I have 30-40 years of experience using a climber and only about 15 hunts in the LWCG stand so it still feels a little slower for me....I've not timed it yet but I'd guess that from walking up to the tree, stand and sticks on my back, until I am at hunting height with my bow and backpack on the hanger...I'd be at about 10-12 minutes and probably about the same time coming down to get everything packed up to walk out.

I tried saddle hunting last year and then bought the .5 this year....I prefer the .5 because I can actually stand and shoot almost 360 degrees on the platform without all the twisting / turning in the saddle....YMMV

I also tried "hybrid hunting" i.e. using my saddle with the .5....but since I like to actually stand so much, I prefer to use a rock climbing harness over my saddle in the .5 because the saddle sags when you just try to stand up whereas the RCH stays put.

For me, I really like the .5 with the XOP Holiday Harness and yes, I use a linemans belt climbing up and down and then a tether on the stand.

I'll also say that the .5 allows me to climb trees with a lot more cover than I ever could with my Viper....in Mississippi a few weeks ago I climbed a beautiful little white oak and was able to easily go above 3-4 limbs and it just felt awesome to have those limbs and cover below me.

This time of year is where I really struggle. So hard to get a shot at a deer with a bow for me from a climber. Seems I get spotted from long range a lot this time of year.

Deer get educated early on in season by bow hunters so they now look into the tree's as much on the ground, they are pretty smart and are quick to pu motion. I think they forget about it when they are fairly young but as they get older and get bumped by folks it gets ingrained in them, a young buck might do the old head wag and maybe a stomp but the mature deer will turn and burn out of there, no hesitation so a man cant get a gun or bow up to shoot.

I run a tethrd xl saddle with their climbing sticks. Super easy set up. I found these reflective zip ties last year also. Always keep them with me. I dropped the link below.

Look at the JX3 hybird,1 sticking with a rapel rope goes as high as you want and pretty simple. I'm 55 yr old ,230 lbs and 6'3. I use a 3 step stick with a 3 step aider.

Another vote for the Tehered Saddle and Sticks. I use 4 Sticks and an aider. I'm 6' 2" and I can get to 18' but am more comfortable at 16 ' or so.
