ML10-II scope base question

This may sound stupid, but I need help with a question........

I have been looking at different scope mounts, several times I have seen round or flat top action & long or short action.............???

obviously, the action is a round top, buuuuuuuuuuuuuut, is the action on the ML10-II a long or short action receiver??????

I have been on the Talley site, the don't list anything specific for the ML10-II. They list model 110, Model 10,12,14. All in two piece bases.

Then they list, reg, extended and double extended frt base...........I am not wild about the look of the Talley rings (clamp screws on top) but, I guess I can get used to it. Their pricing is good compared to some other sites I have looked at.

I found some info. on the Midway site to be able to tell the difference between long & short action. And about which models the bases will fit.

I am now trying to decide between a multi slot one piece base or two piece bases.

savage refers to their 10 series actions as short, 110 series actions as long.

but not sure where our 10ML II action fall in either, I'm all ears too.

I sure hope I ain't telling you wrong on that-maybe run with that on the internet and check around some more.

The model 10 is listed as a short action on the info. I read yesterday. I am still doing some looking around, when I get all the info. together I will post it here.

I believe the 10ml2 to be based off the model 10 action (short action) as kry226 stated above.

I could be wrong, but this is what I have always heard.

DA's part # on the Talley's is correct too. Don't know why he's not using them-

The one piece I am leaning towards will allow me more adjustment options for the scope, it is multi slotted compared to the two piece bases.

I ran into a similar problem with a Knight Rolling Block last fall, I could only locate the two piece bases, when I mounted the scope, I couldn't move it back far enough without the rear ring contacting the turret housing of the scope.

This is the 2-piece base I have on my Savage ML.
Even though it is a 2-piece base, it has 5 slots, offering lots of positioning options.

I'm also using the Burris XTR Rings ---- among the very strongest rings available --- note the width and 6 screws intead of the traditional 2 or 4. Of particular note, I was able to use the "Medium" rings on this set-up with a 44mm objective scope. Many other base/ring sets required "High" rings for scopes over 42mm.

Mine is also stainless, but I see no problem with using matte bases & rings ---- looks great to me.

If you want stainless rings, close your eyes and pick - everyone makes ss for the 10ml2. Leupold, Warne, Talley, etc.

To me (and I have owned 4 stainless 10 ml2's), ss and matte black mate perfectly.

I, however, have taken ALL my ss Savage 10ml barrels and have had them bead blasted matte ss.

Ask DA how his looks.

Yep, I'll never put stainless bases, rings or scope on any rifle ever again. I once put ss Lupy bases, rings and Vari-X III on an A-Bolt Stainless Stalker. I might as well mounted a Light Saber on the rifle. I ended up having to put a camo neoprene scope covering on the scope to tone the flash down. Black matte only for me from now on and I think it looks better than ss hardware any way.

never had a deer see it killed several

during rifle i dont let em get that close and if they do still never a prob

But I bet you don't hunt with equipment you don't have confidence in either, do you? I still managed to put several notches in the stock over a few years, but it was always a distraction to me, if not the deer. Never again.

IMO it is a preference issue vs functional one

and truth be told if i hadt got such a good deal on it it would of been black matte

PMC has good truck tastes as you do ML's and you both need better taste in rifles :D :D :D :D

I got Leupold QR's on mine could not find a set of standards at the time nor bothered to since,Had Talleys didn't care for them but nothing wrong with them.
