We fished a 4 hr tourney yesterday afternoon. I noticed my trolling motor didn't seem like it was operating like it should. Then it picked up a vibration, then before the tourney was over it seemed like it had a short. Well I took it apart this afternoon, it was full of water. Dang thing isn't but 1.5 years old and I dont fish awhole lot. Just by looking I couldn't pin point where the water is entering. I guess I will clean the armature and brushes up and replace all the seals. And seal where the tube goes into the lower unit. If you know any tips or suggestions on working on electric motors, fire away. Thanks

Water usually gets in when fishing line breaks down the seal behind the prop. Had same problem once about 10 years ago. Got parts diagram and called minnkota to order only the parts I needed. When I found out how cheap the parts were, I cancelled order and made a new parts list and replaced practically every part in the foot of the motor for cheap. Parts may be much higher now! Mine had small diameter braided line in it.

I didn't find any line anywhere when I tore it apart. But that doesn't mean that it wasn't there sometime in the past. Thats the first thing that came to my mind when I tore into it. Yeah going to order new seal kit tomorrow and take a skim cut on the armature just enough to clean it up. Brushes look good. I cant find anywhere on Minn kotas website to order parts or parts list. Thanks for the info.
